The Fire Within..... Empty The Fire Within.....

Damn it the red haired huntress thought bitterly, resting against a thick trunk of a tree. The branches loomed overhead a few hundred feet, it wasn’t one to easily climb up. Her horse and wagon were resting at a nearby farm house. The owners were paid for taking care of her horse and keeping an eye on her wagon. Gideon and his accomplices had found her once again. They’d fired the arrows and made sure to hit their target….her. It had gotten worse, soon she wouldn’t be able to spend time in the forest anymore unless they were taken care of. Isabel's clothes were filthy several bloodstains covered her, with patches of torn fabric to accommodate them. She could use the wand to mend her wounds, but somehow she was never able to use it at the right moments, her state of mind right now was just near panic.

An arrow marked its target earlier she’d pulled it out of her bicep. While she was pausing for breath, it seeped blood, she did her best to tie a cloth around the area tightly, until she could calm down enough. Holding her bow and quiver, shakily. Her pack against her back, light and supplies near gone from running. Isabel’s brow was covered in sweat, red hair drenched from it. The sunshine didn't help but clouds were thickening above. Unstrapping the canteen and taking another drink, she’d need more water too. Picking some branches out of her red hair. Lifting her head to try to listen and to quiet her breathing. The rustling of many footsteps passing through the underbrush of the forest floor, quietly barking orders.

Backing away from the tree, scooting around the trunk to the other side. Smacking her forehead with her hand in frustration. The nearest road was close by. Hearing another order, she tensed in fear, backing up, after she lowered her hand. no no no no no! I can’t be captured. Isabel thought to herself. The hunter wasn’t doing a very good job this season, he’d been riled up by certain events between them. Now she was the target, Gideon blamed her for his misfortunes, in which had happened. Which were true in a way, an arrow fired behind her, landing beside the half-elf. The road was north, a few hundred feet. Isabel thought she could make it in time, before she was too tired and gave up. Glancing around from the tree, another arrow fired past her, and a shout after it. Taken aback she pushed herself forward, with what energy she had left and made a run towards the road.

Dodging several arrows, bushes and other small obstacles. Another arrow pierced her thigh suddenly, leaning her off to the side, it also slowed her down a great deal. The force behind the shock of the impact, made her trip over a log, sending her rolling down a short steep hill. Yelling in surprise, as she impacted the ground scraping her knee, and elbow. This made for an awkward situation, not unlike being a deer herself. Scratches just covered her, she sat there winded, the road was right there, just on the other side of the bushes. However they were just scratches, those weren't as bad as the arrow wound. She almost made it, getting on her belly she crawled the rest of the way as quickly as she could even if her wounds slowed her down. Without the bow and quiver getting in the way. Panting, and wincing at her new leg wound, the huntress reached a hand towards the flattened surface of the dusty road. Bushes surrounded her, and all she could do was get at least half of her body out of the brush. Lying there with her head down, and an arm extended. Her wounded arm was close to her.

Red hair braided but just in a mess, sweaty with small branches, and leaves in her hair. Lifting her head and looking behind The Huntress could hear them searching for her. Laying on the ground, her bow and quiver off to the side of her, she'd set it down so her body could rest. The half-elf had run several miles in flight, with short stops in between, they had kept up with her easily, as if she were the prey. Isabel might as well have been dead……but she wasn't, putting her head back down to rest, she breathed shakily, with an outreached hand towards the road. It was a wonder if anyone would find her….The Huntress had become hunted.....

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Post by Wisp Mon Apr 06, 2015 2:36 am

His eyes glanced lazily over the forest below, searching for food but hardly needing to fill his growing belly. His wings were overlarge and lanky compared to his smaller torso, his legs dangling awkwardly beneath him. The warm sun heated his black scales, the dark brown of his belly appearing darker in the shadow his body formed. Pink streaks started at his nose and ran down his face and neck, highlighting his eyes and trailing down his body, fanning out at the end of his tail. He was perfectly described by two words. Magnificently awkward.

Swooping down to get closer to the cool trees, the young adolescent's pink tipped tendrils fluttered slightly as he searched for any sign of venison. His mother's week-long absence had granted him an extreme freedom which he was happily pushing to the max. His main diet generally consisted of fish but he'd grown weary of it and longed for the nice, tender, juicy..

His wings flailed awkwardly as a new scent entered his nostrils. Human blood.

He swooped down closer, his eyes adjusting to the lower light and peering into the foliage below. His ears picked up the racket of male voices off into the distance and for a moment he hovered, waiting until he was certain they had gone on their way to a great enough distance. Glancing around, he noticed a clearing not far from where he had first scented the blood and with a bit of teetering and tottering he landed with only a small bit of a tumble.

Edging carefully into the forest, he stopped as a branch snapped below his weight, glancing around before tucking his wings in carefully close to his body and nosing his way deeper into the forest.

His journey took him deeper and a few times the scent eluded him, but soon it carried with it more information than he had originally derived. Blood, female, human and.. and something else. Mud, dirt, sweat. He sniffed deeper, accidentaly breathing in a small poof of pollen released as his wing brushed a nearby bush. With a sneeze his tendrils tangled around his nose and he shook them free again. His small, rounded ears perked for sounds of life but found none. Curious he moved forward once more, his eyes nearly missing the girl in the bushes on the other side of the worn, dusty road.

Emerging from the bushes opposite her, he peered curiously down one direction of the path, and then down the other. The forest quietly twittered and chattered around him, his ear perking at an angry chipmunk before shaking his head and sneaking further out onto the path. Sinking down to look at her, he nearly laid on his belly as his nose outstretched to smell her, his tendrils gently feeling her face and his ears perked forward as the girl became increasingly blurry the closer he looked at her. "Hey..are you okay?" he asked, his emerald eyes curious and concerned.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Post by Shepherdess Mon Apr 06, 2015 6:52 pm

The half-elf had gone in and out of consciousness, by the time she felt hot air on her face. She hadn't recalled feeling the vibrations of something big near her. When a voice reached her, moaning slightly. Her throat was dry, the position she was in she'd moved her hand down a little. Coughing because of dust, peeking an eye open at the voice. Isabel said hoarsely in a snide remark “Oh great, are you going to finish me off too? Did they send you after me?” coughing afterwards, speaking just made it worse. Dragons were an abnormity in her life, not that she hadn’t seen them before, and they were just avoided. The sun at least felt good in the warm breeze.

Nothing made sense why was this dragon here alone? “Why are you here alone?” wincing as she tried to move, sit up or do something. Unable to find the strength to do so, she’d spent all her energy in trying to get away. Usually she’d be more defensive than this, however lacking the right mindset in being scared at the same time she was asking these questions. Glancing into those emerald eyes. The irony that she was hunted like a deer, only made it worse. What was Isabel going to do, not possibly being able to move, let alone walk and get up like normal.

Remaining quiet and listening for voices, she found them. Lifting her head and looking around. Blue eyes scanned what she could. Shrinking in fear, they sounded close, once again. Clenching her fist, making they couldn’t just stay here. Glancing back at the dragon, realizing he was smaller than she thought the first time. Regretting the small chit-chat that she’d created between the two. Her curiosity must have been greater than thought, watching the dragon. Isabel could smell the iron scent of her own blood, she was bound to leave a trail of it. “Help me get out of here….please….” she begged, not caring where or what place. Her world consisted of the forest and she only knew the forest. If the woman was taken out of the forest she wouldn’t know what to do.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

He peered at her curiously as she spoke and tried to move. She was seriously injured, of that he was certain. He simply shook his head slightly as she asked if he'd come to finish her and his tendrils fluttered slightly in embarrassment when she asked why he was alone. His head popped up as he heard the voices growing nearer once more and he began to second guess himself. Perhaps he should have let her be, maybe his presence was drawing attention to her.
He looked back at her. She was too injured to run, or even walk and too heavy for him to carry. He glanced back at the path, listening for the approaching voices.
Then he became a flurry of motion, his teeth daintily grabbing the nape of her shirt and tugging her into the path, gathering his feet below him and tugging back with each step until she was on the path. Nosing under her arm, her began to prop her up when he heard voices coming around the bend!
His wings, though not large enough to engulf her completely, wrapped around her instinctively and he felt a piercing arrow hit near the edge. Crying out in pain he looked around frantically for an escape, yet finding none.
Then in a desperate flash they were gone from the path and the young dragon looked down surprised as he found they were now listing in a large pond. "Oops...uh.."
Closing his eyes he focused on the caverns once more and in a flash they were back on the path surrounded by a ring of angry hunters! "Dang blam it" the dragon cursed under his breath before with another flash they found themselves in a dragon sized room like cavern. He shuddered quietly and gently released the young woman, laying her back into the deep, soft straw. "Rest" he uttered before waddling off, tripping over a ledge and hitting the arrow in his wing, he yowled and growled and was about to tear it out when a young, elegant scarlet accented dragon head popped into the doorway of sorts between the strings of beads that acted as barriers between quarters. "Caesar! Where have you been and oh my, your mother will not be happy!" Caesar paused, his teeth gripped around the arrow shaft, his tendrils twitching, "please don't tell mother..." He mumbled around the arrow shaft.

She winced when he started pulling her by her collar, moaning slightly. Reaching one arm up to his dragon nose. The huntress felt him start to prop her up, it didn’t feel that way to her but she could see that’s what she was doing. The world went dark because of his wings, why was he protecting her? A piercing cry of pain came from him as she saw an arrow through her side of one of the wings. She’d winced again when he cried, licking her lips to try and moisten them.

Blinking as she found herself in a large pond panic struck her, but before she could react it was too late. They were surrounded by the group of hunters tracking her, “what are you---” before Isabel could finish she was in a strange cave. Shaking her head, now sopping wet, injured, tired, and in a strange place. Lying down, she was exhausted, not only that but now kidnapped by a dragon and there were more. Just what she needed, watching the two talk, weren’t there any people around?

Moving her injured leg, and arm, her arm which the bandage had soaked through again. She needed proper care, her energy was sapped. At least she was on some soft straw, but it wouldn't be enough she was feeling cold. Feeling tired she rested her eyes, only finding herself dreaming again. Isabel watched her dreams, a man appeared in and out, a black wolf howled in her dream. She wasn’t afraid of this wolf, having strong feelings for the creature, and it walked beside her. Her body was covered in sweat again, the dreams felt real, they weren’t but she was in the forest and that was her home. It made her have feelings of regret Tikana appeared and his family. Then she found herself drowning in deep water. Jerking awake, and yelling she still found herself in the cave.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

"Ma'am! Ma'am? Doctor!? We need a doctor down in the dragon quarters, and quick!" Gimpy looked up from his research as the frantic young second year came bursting into the infirmary. Doctor Anna quickly grabbed her bag and motioned for Gimpy to follow. With a nod, he reached for his cane and followed slowly behind his two comrades.

Doctor Anna was already kneeling next to the young woman when Gimpy poked his head into the dimly lit cavernous room. As his eyes adjusted to the flickering oil lamps he could make out the shapes of Kestral, a young dragon who had bonded just last year and her younger brother Caesar. He noticed Caesar's wing was drooping slightly as if he didn't want to move it and glancing over at the doctor he nodded as she motioned him to look after Caesar.

”Well old boy, what'd you get yourself into this time?” he asked the pink marked dragon with a rye smile. Caesar's tendrils twitched and he snorted. "Nothing" he muttered before glancing over at Doctor Anna and the young woman. "Doc fix her up okay?" ”I don't know,” Gimpy said quietly, but sensing the growing worry in the dragon rephrased his answer slightly ”I'm sure Doc will fix her up right as rain” he said with a small pat to Caesar's neck. ”Let's take a look at you though shall we?”

Caesar obliged begrudgingly and ignored the judging looks of his elder sister who'd been charged with looking out for him while the new recruits were fetched from Rothbane. Going slowly and gently, Gimpy broke the arrow and slid each end out, leaving a small hole in Caesar's wing that would heal with time. Dabbing a poultice on the wound, he made sure it was clean before gently rubbing on a healing salve. ”Now don't lick it off.” he warned sternly just as Caesar raised his wing gingerly to inspect it and sniffed the salve curiously. ”We'll have to watch it for infection but you should be fine.” With that, he gave a nod and limped over to see to the girl.

Caesar wandered not far from them and turned several times before laying down in the soft warm straw. Laying his head down on his paws he glanced at Kestral before looking away again. How would he explain this to mother? No one but recruits and those in the corps were supposed to enter the base, much less the very heart of the dragon quarters. He sighed, well at least she didn't know how to get there. He quietly began to lick the water from his hide and listened as the doctor and nurse spoke quietly amongst themselves.

”Do you think we should move her to the infirmary?” Gimpy asked as they gently began to cut away the cloth that surrounded her wounds and began to clean them. "Can't risk it, she's not authorized and Commander Hathgar will be furious. Besides, her wounds aren't life threatening if they're treated." The doctor glanced over at Kestral before beckoning her over. "Get two guards, have them posted outside the door. She can't leave till we get official word from Lieutenant Commander Snow. Don't worry about telling her, I'll handle that, just get the guards posted." The dragoness dipped her quickly and scampered off, her movements older and far more refined than those of her gangly brother.

They continued in silence, blessed by the fact that the young woman had passed out and tried to work quickly lest she wake. They were just finishing the last bandage when the woman woke with a fright and yelling. Gimpy felt a wave of fear and anxiety wash over him and he quickly tried to quell it while working to calm her. ”Easy easy my lady, you've had quite a day from the looks of it, just..there you go, just lie back”. The Doctor watched as Gimpy tried to calm the young woman, noting his technique with veiled pride and trying her hand at soothing the young woman as well. "You're safe now" she assured with a matter of fact tone.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Post by Shepherdess Tue Apr 07, 2015 1:33 am

The huntress blinked and heard the calm words but they weren’t registering, she saw the people around her. Trying to back away in a very unsuccessful way, and in a non-trusting glare at the man who spoke. She wasn’t used to such attention, the painful memories coming back. Isabel calmed down enough to let them continue working, why was she still in this cave? Where the hell was she anyway? Questions were starting to form in her mind, though all she wanted to do was go back to sleep. She still felt weary from her running, and near death experiences. She wasn’t able to speak yet, not sure what was going on, the people working on her she held several bandages already. Glancing at her arm, she held a new bandage, and they were working on her leg. One side of her leggings had been cut to get rid of the arrow, and to properly wrap the bandage around.

Leaning her head back against the straw, she laid there quietly until weariness took over once again. Closing her eyes she let them finish the work on her. There were many small cuts, she winced if one was deep and the solution stung. It was worse when she was awake. Her head spun she had a headache, and was a bit hungry but no appetite to eat. Laying there with her eyes closed her thoughts went back to the man she’d dreamed about, and the wolf. It didn’t make sense, why dream of that here? She’d never had any other dreams in the forest of a black wolf walking beside her. When the questions wouldn’t leave her alone, Isabel let herself sleep. Seeing what the dreams were this time.

It was the middle of the night once again, nothing was around her. She was happily resting in the arms of a man, he pounced on top of her smiling, only being replaced by the face of the wolf. Those same eyes lingering on her but unable to see his face. She cried, tears streaming down her face. Hearing a menacing laughter of a familiar voice, yet she herself didn’t know who it was.

Isabel stirred in her sleep once again, turning over, moaning a male name unknown to herself. Clenching her fists, the dreams turned violent, it always ended the same, and drowning in water…..Waking the half-elf didn’t scream but opened her eyes and sat up slightly rubbing her head. At least she could move again, looking around she could feel someone watching her. Then when her eyes adjusted to the new light, her vision caught that of what looked like guards. Tilting her head, the straw moved under her, though a blanket had been provided as she now noticed. Her clothes were different too, or at least dry. She couldn’t see outside, not knowing what type of day it was anymore, or how long she’d slept. The huntress preferred the quiet, why was she brought here? These dreams just started? Was it because of so much magic here? Dragon’s themselves were a mystery to her, and not one she really cared to know about. Though Isabel supposed she would have to thank the dragon that rescued her, hopefully they would be able to bring her back to the forest.

The two continued their work with little chit-chat between them as they strove to patch up the young woman. Finally finishing, they covered her with a light blanket and Gimpy made sure she seemed comfortable despite the fact that she'd drifted off again. The poor creature must have been exhausted. Quietly gathering their tools and kits, they nodded to the grooming dragons and slipped from the room, the beads swaying slightly with their passage.

Caesar watched the woman sleep for a bit, his ears flickering as he heard the shifting of the guards as they sought to get comfortable. Turning his ears back to the woman, he heard the intake and exhaling of breath as she slept fitfully. Laying his head on his wings he watched her quietly, his eyes slowly getting heavy.

His head rose sharply as he heard voices coming down the cavern halls. He picked up the words of the doctor as she explained what she knew to Lieutenant Commander Snow, which, she admitted was very little. The dragon had appeared in the quarters with the girl, injured and needing care. The doctor and Nurse Gimpy had provided that care and arranged for guards.

His attention was snatched away from the approaching visitors when he heard the woman stirring. His head turned slightly and he watched her for a minute before looking back at the entrance as the doctor and Lt. Commander Snow emerged. He lowered his head in respect and tried not to look guilty.

The doctor had found me at an opportune time, I had a small break between performing the duties of my temporary office and dinner. I found the situation strange and listened carefully as Nurse Gimpy and Doctor Anna told me of what they knew. As I walked into the cave, I thought about what I had been told and I was mildly irritated that the explanations that the Nurse and Doctor had given me were less than satisfactory. It wasn't their fault of course but it meant I would have to find out more from this young woman and I couldn't help but wish this had happened on Sabine's watch, she was much better at things like this.

I saw the girl in question still in bed, though awake. Good, she'll be able to answer some questions.I thought But first I turned to the young dragon, Caesar, and nodded to him. Please, Juvenile Caesar, tell me what happened to the best of your understanding, and explain why you thought bringing her here was necessary. I spoke the words without emotion, neither angry or upset that he had done so, simply wanting to know why he'd brought her here. I listened as the young one spoke, nodding at the end of his explanation. I mulled over his response as I walked to the woman.

I knelt by her and gave my best smile, one I'd practiced over the last eight years. I noticed a distinct look of elf in her but it was faded, as though it had been filtered through something. I took note to ask her about it should the opportunity arise. First, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Tanya Snow. Is there something I can call you? I hoped that by going slow and introducing myself I could help her open up some, perhaps ease her fears some.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Post by Shepherdess Tue Apr 07, 2015 7:14 pm

The huntress watched as a new face appeared, feeling nervousness she looked to the dragon, still not knowing his name. Having not paid attention to much since she got here. Dealing with the pain, moving back a little, wincing as she did so. Hearing a name, she realized this woman wasn't a threat at the moment. "Isabel." she said hoarsely, laying still again.

Nothing made sense at the moment, her trust in these people weren't going to be easy to earn. They may know her name, but she wasn't ready to let them into her life. Glancing over to the dragon, she wasn't sure exactly "Where am I?" she asked. Taking time to silently observed the woman, her dark skin, hair purple eyes. Isabel was almost intimidated by her, feeling something of authority with the woman, maybe it came from the dragon that had rescued her with the way he acted. The dragon almost acted differently when she was around. Isabel herself hadn't been raised by elves, she was raised by humans. However, they weren't worried about her right now, she hadn't lived with them for a few years.

Caesar waited as Lt. Commander Snow seemed to survey the situation. He had not had a lot of interaction with her, but he also wasn't known as the most...conforming dragon so his name was more than likely familiar to her. Still as she spoke he felt no annoyance or malice in her voice and relaxed slightly.

"I uh.." he shifted slightly and felt Kestrel's eyes on him. "I was hunting over the Enchanted Forest." he admitted, his eyes dropping to the straw below. "I smelled human blood and dipped down to investigate. I found her near the main road and could tell she was badly hurt. There were bad men looking for her. I would have found a safe place to stash her and go get help but they came upon us and I panicked" he admitted, his voice growing quieter.

"I..I don't know what happened, I pulled her out of the brush and wrapped my wings around her to protect her but then one of the bad men shot me with an arrow! I...I.. we were suddenly in a pond I'd visited earlier. And then we were back in the forest among the men and then we showed up here. I don't know what happened" he said again as his head drooped, embarrassed that he was in so little control of his abilities.

He sneaked a peak at the Lt. Commander who only nodded and moved on, he released a small breath of relief and watched as she turned to then ask the visitor questions. His relief was short lived as he felt a sharp nip on his neck from his sister. "Imbecile" she hissed.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Post by Fay Feirings Tue Apr 07, 2015 9:13 pm

I nodded as she spoke her name. Thank you, Isabel. Getting her to tell me her name was a good  first step but it wouldn't mean a thing if I couldn't continue that trend. Her question wasn't unexpected but I had hoped it would come later in the conversation. I debated for a moment whether I should tell her where she was or if I should brush off the question for the safety of the fleet. You are in the dragon roosts of Rynar's Royal Dragon Fleet
Her knowing wasn't going to be dangerous if she didn't know how to get here and I need her to trust me if I was going to get any answers from her.

Thinking back to what the dragon told me I thought about what my next question would be. My first instinct was to be straight forward but I'd been told by Sabine that not everyone was responsive to that technique. I decided to explain myself to her, hoping that by opening up to her might get her to open up to me. I am the Lieutenant Commander of the fleet and in charge while the Commander is away.

Dr. Anna entered the chamber again and brought the pitcher of water with two cups that I'd requested to me. I poured two cups from the pitcher and placed one next to Isabel, taking a sip from mine. I hoped that the gesture would show that the water wasn't tainted while not bringing up the fact that she might have thought that. I would like to explain that while we normally don't allow civilians in our caverns I am more than happy to offer you any medical assistance you might require. I am going to ask you some questions, the answers of which will help me better understand your situation. Please feel free to answer at your own pace and if you don't want to answer that is fine as well. I took another sip of water. My first question is an easy one. Are you hungry? I smiled, hoping that if she was she would be comfortable eating here. I was trying to think about the best way to handle the questioning, wishing Caesar had blinked her into a more comfortable setting. I didn't think it would be a good idea to move her until after she'd gotten some sleep and perhaps had some sort of medicine for pain that would make the moving less difficult on her but I knew the straw bedding the dragons slept on probably wasn't as comfortable as a bed would be.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Post by Shepherdess Wed Apr 08, 2015 12:23 am

Isabel scrunched her nose, not really understanding what this was about, why the need for the questions. When the half-elf noticed the water, and the woman drinking it, immediately reached for the glass not worried. Drinking the whole glass, she hadn’t had a drink since her last break in the forest and she’d finished her canteen off. Which to say the least eased her a little, more so than if she wouldn’t have had the water. Isabel was probably filthy looking, hair still a mess, and scratches covered her. At least none of them had been life threatening, not yet anyway, there was still room for infection and Isabel wasn’t completely trusting anyone yet.

However, she’d answer the woman’s questions, feeling a little better after the drink. She listened to the commander, still not knowing her name. When she was ready Isabel nodded in response to her question of being hungry. Her tummy growled in protest, her cheeks reddening slightly. Moving her injured leg uncomfortably, embarrassed, wincing as she did so. It was hard to forget the pain at the moment, causing distractions. Isabel also hadn’t forgotten her arm or other minor injuries, trying to remember what had happened clearly. Forgetting about the weird dreams that didn’t want to leave her mind, the men, the dragon appearing and rescuing her. It was starting to slowly come back.

Breathing out slightly, at the effort of remembering, her strength needed time to recover. Isabel wasn’t one to complain about where she slept, especially since Tikana taught her where the good spots were on the forest floor. The straw was an improvement, finding it comfortable enough. Glancing around, and noting the guards again, she watched them for a moment, then turned her attention to the woman again. Not like she could walk anyway, Isabel now found herself propped against the cave wall or a large rock she couldn’t tell. “What is it that you want of me?” she asked quietly, knowing there was a price somewhere in letting her stay here. All she wanted after healing was to return to the forest, as soon as she could walk she was out of here.

Not liking being confined to sit all the time, not even the sounds of the forest were present. Feeling homesick already, it hadn’t even been a full day yet. Filling her cup again, with the pitcher, she needed another drink the half-elf was parched.

Caesar quietly rose and stretched as the Lt. commander questioned Isabel. Isabel, such a pretty name Caesar thought to himself as he dipped into a deep stretch and quietly slipped over to his own water trough away from his grumpy sister. Dipping his whole muzzle into the water, he drank deeply and then blew a few bubbles to amuse himself. Pulling his muzzle back out of the trough, he gently shook his head with a grin on his face and water dripped slowly from his tendrils.

Easing his way as quietly as possible to where Isabel was sitting, he sat close-by and looked between the two of them, following the careful conversation with interest. When the Lt. commander mentioned food, Caesar felt his stomach growled and he nodded enthusiastically.

"I'd love some food!" he chimed in before realizing she wasn't really talking to him. He glanced between them uncomfortably before looking down and slowly shifting into a laying position, and laying his head on his paws, his nose close to Isabel's leg and sniffed curiously at the bandage the doc had put on.

When Isabel asked what the Lt. commander wanted of her, his head lifted and he looked at Snow expectantly. With the enthusiasm of the child he was his tendrils fluttered excitedly. "Can we keep her!?"

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

The dragon creeping closer had not escaped my notice and I took note of his behavior. When she nodded to my question I called for one of the guards at the door. Guard, send for two plates of food from the dining hall and have Juvenile Caesar's dinner brought in as well please. I turned back to our guest and adjusted my position so that I was cross-legged on the floor. When she asked what I wanted from her I tilted my head, sensing there was more to the question but not understanding beyond the obvious. Just answers, and then only what you're comfortable sharing. As the dragon spoke I looked at him. People are not things that we can simply keep as pets. My voice held no tone of scolding however, simply explaining how the world worked to the youngster.

I turned back to Isabel, smiled and sat quietly for a moment. I knew it would be a while before the runner got back with our dinner, it wasn't a short walk between the two locations and it would have to be made twice. If you don't mind, while we wait for our food, would you tell me how you came to be so injured? I had more questions for her, of course. Who did this, where were they, were they still a threat, would the fleet need to become involved for the safety of the fleet and the recruits about to pass through the enchanted forest, but I would take my time, the group was not due to go through for a few days and nothing good ever came from rushing into a situation without all the facts.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

The huntress lifted her head, as the woman ordered one of the guards to go get food. Thinking quietly to herself, as the woman had turned her head. What was she going to do, for as long as she was stuck here, it was unlikely she’d be able to leave the room even? Feeling a little claustrophobic, her breathing increased slightly. However, Isabel tried to remain calm, two sets of expectant eyes, the dragon, whose name was Caesar, his comment would have been funny if she wasn’t in a lot of pain.

Eyeing the dragon as he laid down. With what the Commander said, feeling a little more relaxed, barely. Wincing when the commander wanted of her, bringing her good arm up and rubbing the bad one slightly. The freshly wrapped bandages were not going to be comfortable, later. “Um……well…..They were only after me, one of their leaders wanted me for his desires. I refused, and ran, well you can guess what happened after that.” in her own embarrassment, she looked away shyly, pulling the blanket closer to her. She wasn’t exactly thrilled with the idea of someone just taking her like that. Something the dragon, probably wouldn’t understand fully, and didn’t care explaining it right now.

Shifting to the best of her ability, not that she wouldn’t want that someday with someone she cared about. This was just fresh in her mind and she didn’t want anything to do with people at the moment. Remaining quiet she just wanted to go back home, in the forest to her adopted family. Knowing that Isabel wasn’t going to leave any time soon.

Caesar gave a low purr in appreciation when Lt. Commander Snow ordered that his dinner be brought too. Normally the dragons would go and feast at their leisure but he was injured after all. His face fell as Snow chided him gently explaining that they could not just keep the young woman. Well that seemed unfair. A pout slipped onto his face and his muzzle sank to his paws once more. Still his ears remained alert and tuned into the quiet conversation.

He listened as she explained and for a moment a confused look came over his face. Wanted her for his desires? What could that possibly... oh! His face grew dark as his mind grasped of what she spoke. It was true, most young dragons would have no reason to know such things, yet as a male, even though he was a dragon, his mother had at least explained the crime to him. Still for a male to be so brash towards a female... normally it was the other way around. His face grew greatly puzzled before concern clouded it. He shook it away, mother would be fine, she was strong and brave, she'd protect the commander. But what about all those recruits? What if one wandered what if?"

"We have to warn Commander Hathgar!" he blurted before thinking better of it.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

I watched her body language change, she'd been nervous before but now there was something else I couldn't quite put my finger on. I listened to her words, grasping what she meant and was taken aback, stunned that any man would dare demand that of her and try to harm her as a result of her saying no. I caught Caesar's reaction as well, confusion and then a sudden realization of what it meant followed by a sudden outburst. You are probably right Caesar, but they have a few days before they get to the forest, so we have time.

I tried remain calm though, not wanting to alarm the young woman. After what she'd been through I thought I understood at least part of why she was so uncomfortable here. Well, you have nothing to fear here, the doctor doesn't think you should be moved until tomorrow so in the morning we will get you a bed and someone will show you around a bit. Until your injuries are healed I would like it if you stayed here so we can make sure you're okay.  I understand if this is scary for you but you are not a prisoner here, I promise.

I looked up as a guard brought in two steaming plates of food from the kitchens. So that you know, the guards are not here to keep you in, they are there to keep people out so that they don't bother you. It was partly true, that was why the guards had been posted, I did not mention that the people they were keeping out might be scared and angry at a civilian suddenly appearing. I didn't believe she was in any real danger but having the added presence of guards was an added layer of protection. I got up to meet the guard half way and took the plates of food for him with a nod of thanks, walking them back over to Isabel. Which plate would you like? They were both basically the same, the meat of the day, a deer roast, potatoes, carrots and onions roasted with the deer and a salad of fresh forest greens on the side.

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

Isabel’s body jumped at Ceasar’s response. Her thoughts unclear as to why they would be involved in the situation at all. They were after her, no one else. Tikana would be more than willing to guide them away from danger, the thought popped up and opened a doorway. Tilting her head as the woman explained further that she wasn’t in any danger here, which by now, even in The huntress’s state she couldn’t trust that statement fully.

Nodding in understanding, “I don’t mind it here, um….what was all that about the Enchanted Forest? I know someone who can lead them to where they need to go, Tikana can help, and he’s one of the best guides I know.” She said, her interest peaked a bit, increasing her mood. Looking at the food that was brought in, the half-elf didn’t care at the moment which one, she just picked one and started to eat. It was delicious, but she was so hungry that she didn’t pay too much attention to the flavors.

She couldn’t remember when her last decent meal was, it’d been two days at least on the run, and The Huntress was really hungry. Before the whole mercenary group capturing her, and the man growing obsessed over her in such a short time. It had been a trying day, especially since Tikana had been nowhere to help her escape, however he’d finished her training long ago, and now taking care of his own family.

Chewing slowly now, thoughts coming back to her, she had almost finished her plate. Setting her plate down beside her the half-elf said “Thank you for the meal.” Trying to remember to use her manners, where in the woods she wouldn’t have needed them. Feeling a little better now that she'd eaten something, the more she sat and talked the more tired she felt. Sinking down a bit, her tummy now full, she drank a little more water too. Her eyes were starting to close against her will and she wasn't done. They wouldn't know how to find Tikana, what if the mercenaries accidentally ran into the group they were talking about. Isabel's eyes started to shut again, lifting her head in awareness, the huntress did her best to listen.

Caesar calmed as Lt. Commander Snow eased his fears with reason. Of course of course. He sighed slightly and relaxed again. To think that a man, nay men could revolt such against nature and become so hostile was deeply troubling to the young dragon. He could not help but feel that their actions reflected badly on the entire gender and felt resentment towards these troublemakers. These men were obviously mentally disturbed to become such menaces when the normal male in Rynar was quiet and compliant. It was most unnerving.

He was distracted from his thoughts as the smell of fresh fish hit his nostrils and while he normally would be less than enthusiastic about such an offering, he found himself famished and purred happily. Quickly and in as polite a way as he could, he gulped down the fish while Snow was talking with Isabel, his ears still half listening to the conversation. He knew Snow was only half speaking the truth when she said the guards were to keep people away but if it would calm Isabel to think that then he trusted the Lt. Commander to know what was best.

Caesar glanced at Snow when Isabel asked about those traveling through the Enchanted forest, perhaps it would have been better had he not mentioned them. He lowered his eyes and started grooming himself where meal had tarnished his supple scales.

As he noticed Isabel shift and her eyes grow tired he shifted closer so she could lean against him if she wished and wrapped his tail protectively, but respectfully near her. "I'll never let anyone hurt you." He said quietly, his head dropping so it was beside her, "Never."

The Fire Within..... Empty Re: The Fire Within.....

I smiled at the girl's suggestion. I will discuss that with Sabine when I contact her. I'm not sure we'll need this person's services but I will make sure she knows the offer is out there. I doubted Sabine would accept the help of a civilian to get through the forest, she was very familiar with it and the man in question might not be a problem by the time the group got to the forest. Sabine and the second years had been gone for eight days already but she wasn't expected back for another week or more, depending on the troubles they had on the trip. It would only take a rider a day to get there and another to get back, plenty of time to mobilize a group and deal with the man.

Dinner was delicious, as always, and I was happy to see that Isabel had eaten it without hesitation. Caesar had also enjoyed his dinner of fish. I noticed the girl getting drowsy and smiled as Caesar curled protectively around her. Thank you very much for answering my questions. You've had a long day, why don't you get some sleep and I'll see you again in the morning. I got up and moved the pitcher and her glass closer to her in case she wanted more water. I nodded to the dragon, the implications of his actions not beyond me. I picked up the plates and walked out, handing them to one of the guards.

I walked at a brisk pace to Sabine's office that I was temporarily using and sat down to write a detailed letter to the Commander explaining the situation. Sending for our fastest flier I told her to get ready to leave at first light.

The huntress leaned back against Caesar placing a hand on the bridge of his nose as he curled around her. Now half-listening to The Commander or whatever her name was, she watched her eventually leave. Yawning involuntarily, and pulling the blanket back over, a hand leaving Ceasar’s nose. Glancing at the guards one last time, she moved closer to Caesar the best to her ability without wincing or crying out in pain.

It wasn’t hard for the half-elf to fall asleep, to have restful sleep that was a different matter. She was locked in a cage, treated as an animal, she’d done nothing to deserve such treatment. Then the cage filled with water, unable to escape the water filling the cage, she’d panicked and woke covered in sweat, but tried to keep quiet. These nightmares were begging to be a normal routine, she’d have to get some help with them. Once calm again, she went back to sleep this time a little calmer but still the nightmares eventually came through again. Moaning once she woke a third time that night.

Once awake she stayed awake, not having felt as if she’d gotten much sleep anyway. Perhaps it was because of the pain, or what the traumatic experience brought her. Placing a hand on Caesar, she felt his scales, they were smooth. Isabel had never felt dragon scales before, feeling the dark scales. The action slowly put her at ease and she felt better knowing Caesar would do his best to protect her. So far he had, if she were to trust him now, would Isabel have to stay here? Frowning a little, she’d miss the forest too much, the half-elf wouldn’t know if she were allowed to come back, not even knowing how to find the place.

The guards switched, they were different, glancing over she saw one of them glance over to her. Becoming shy once again she looked away, trying to fall back asleep. By now she’d become relaxed again and grew tired. Once she fell asleep, the dreams were more peaceful. Isabel continued to sleep until someone awoke her.

Caesar stayed with her throughout her sleep and through the night. Curling a bit closer, his tail edged closer around her and his uninjured wing gently stretched over her to keep her warm. He felt her shift through the night, still he stayed still and slipped back into sleep, striving to provide some stability for the young woman.

One eye slipped open as she stirred and he purred quietly as she stroked his scales, cuddling her gently but making sure not to disturb her injuries and cause her more pain. Soon the two were sleeping once more and Caesar fell into a deep slumber.

He whimpered and awoke as the doctor tried to gently prod his wing. "It appears to be healing nicely" Dr. Anna said quietly yet with a brisk professionalism to her. She'd patched up young dragons before, thankfully they healed quickly for the gods knew they didn't have much patience. She glanced at the young woman who awoke and kneeled down so that they could speak more easily as she looked over the young woman's wounds.

"Looking good" she uttered quietly "Reading to sleep in a real bed again?" she asked with a slight smile. Caesar lifted his head and tilted it, a perplexed look coming over his face. "But how will I watch over her over there?" he asked, head pulling back in disapproval at this change of situation. "Oh come now Caesar, don't be selfish, she'll be better in fleet quarters, besides, even when you choose a bond one day your bonded will be living there, you know this. Don't worry, she'll be well looked after, and besides, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to visit."

Isabel eyed the nurse, after Ceasar’s comment, she actually agreed with him. Liking the peace and quiet, not knowing if she could take being in another room, with strangers. Frowning, the mention of a bed did sound nice, “I haven’t been in a bed in months.” Even then she wouldn’t know if it would be comfortable or not. The half-elf almost preferred the forest floor over a bed, with her furs it was more comfortable. This was a lot more comfortable than that cage she’d slept in overnight though.

The leg was stiff, she needed to move, though being in a room with more strangers was not a welcoming thought. Especially since she wasn’t welcome here, others probably wouldn’t like the idea, as much as she didn’t. “I’m not sure I like that idea…..” she said, placing a hand on Ceasar, glancing to him. Isabel was starting to trust the dragon, even if it had only been one day. The small event of rescuing her, held more trust for her than Ceasar could understand.

However, when nurses started to come by and move her. The huntress crossed her arms gently in silent protest, they were going to move her if she wanted to or not. Wincing if one of the nurses was a bit rough on her leg. The bandages needed changed, having soaked through over the night. It would be a long healing process for Isabel, she wouldn’t be able to use a bow yet for at least a month or two. How was she going to earn enough coin to get her by? Questions started forming as she was placed on the bed and carried down the hallway, looking back at Ceasar. Not even realizing what this whole dragon business was about, there were other dragons here, but mostly women for people? What was with that? Getting several glances as she left her safety zone behind. Feeling very uncomfortable.
